What we do for fun...
Skiing!
Elaine and Cormac have been skiing together since they met in 1994. Despite Elaine’s early attempts to kill him, Cormac survived, and they now regularly ski in Europe with their grown-up children – who leave them far behind, of course. Importantly, Cormac still holds the family top speed record…
Live music
Cormac and Elaine are big live music fans and still enjoy festivals and live music events. These days they delegate crowd surfing and mosh pit duties to their grown-up children who fortunately share their parents’ excellent taste in music
Cold-water swimming
Elaine enjoys cold water swimming – and when I say cold I mean cold! She regularly swims with friends in the sea and in freezing lake water at Redricks Lake in Essex during the winter months including moonlight swims. She completed the Bantham Swoosh in Devon in July 2023. Cormac has been invited to join in but has declined. Emphatically!
Pets
Elaine is a real softie for furry – and not so furry - parasites. The family now has two hounds, three cats including a very unhelpful office assistant, a snake called noodle and a 5 ft. long Argentinian lizard.
Camping, Hiking, Walking
Elaine has a passion for walking and for wild outdoor spaces, especially mountains and coastlines. If we’re not quick enough, we get dragged along as well. She has completed the TrailWalker cross-country marathon, attempted the 3 peaks challenge with our son in July 2023, and has finished numerous sponsored charity walks and hikes. She has yet to find a mountain she doesn’t like.
Cycling
Cormac has been a keen cyclist since – well - since forever really. He has completed numerous long-distance events including the 200-mile, 2-day Co-operation North Maracycle (twice), a 175 mile, 3-day coast-to-coast off-road team ride and the “Arch to Arc” 265-mile ride from Marble Arch in London to L’Arc de la Triomphe in Paris. Most do it in three days. Cormac and his team did it in 23 Hrs and 20 mins.
Tae Kwon Do
Cormac started Tae Kwon Do training in 2008 after a frightening road rage incident. Shortly afterwards the rest of the family joined in. Cormac was awarded his black belt in 2022 and Cormac, Elaine and their son have all competed at national level, winning several medals and trophies including individual sparring, team sparring and patterns.
