Kestrel is delighted to have been appointed Chair of the British Standards Institute (BSi) Sustainable Medical Device Design

BSI is the UK’s National Standards Body (NSB), representing UK economic and social interests across all European and international standards organizations. The BSi work with many different industries, businesses, governments and consumers to develop British, European and international standards. The Standards Development portal contains information on all of the standards and proposed standards with which BSI are involved.

This group of industry experts, researchers, medical device designers, regulatory experts, manufacturers and NGOs has been tasked with developing practical real-world approaches to reducing the environmental impact of the medical and healthcare device manufacturing industry.

Our committee meeting in September reviewed months of work behind the scenes collecting proven approaches from medical and other industries where sustainable design and manufacture has not only reduced waste, but improved profitability and regulatory compliance.

We are producing a structured set of documents outlining to industry why sustainable design is important and how it can be achieved in new and established medical device manufacturing businesses.
